Shirat HaNefesh In Action…
Jewish Community School
Our Limmud program for grades 2-5 helps kids become familiar and comfortable with prayer services, Torah study, holidays, and Jewish values. Our Bnai Mitzvah program is a dynamic and engaging exploration of Jewish ethics, Torah, and preparation to lead parts of the service.
Adult Bnot Mitzvah
We are excited to announce the formation of an Adult Bnot Mitzvah group for 2019-2020, culminating in a joint Bnot Mitzvah service on May 2, 2020. Come join the group or study with us as we explore Torah, Talmud, God, and Jewish values over the course of the year.
Several times a year our Friday night or Saturday morning services are enriched with the singing of Kolot HaLev, our resident choir under the direction of Hazzan Ramón Tasat. From holidays to Havdalah, Kolot HaLev lifts the heart and voice of our community.
Shabbat Mornings & Rabbis' Tables
Shirat HaNefesh holds Shabbat morning services every week, led either by Rabbi Gilah or Hazzan Ramón. Once or twice a month, we expand the Torah service into a one-hour study and discussion session, seminar-style, from 11:00 to 11:50 on Shabbat morning. Rabbi’s Tables are led by Rabbi Gilah Langner, Rabbi Bob Saks, Gideon Amir, as well as other invited guests.
Two groups of members have been meeting to explore the aging process and how to grow old with wisdom, joy, and patience. Please contact the rabbi if you are interested in starting a new group.
Book Discussion Group
If you love to read and talk about books, you’re in good company. Our Book Discussions take place about every two months on a Sunday morning at a member’s home. For a list of books for this year, please click here.
Chesed & Bereavement / When Someone Dies
Our clergy and Chesed and Bereavement committee are there for you when times are difficult and illnesses or death occurs. For information on end-of-life planning, please consult our guidance document, When Someone Dies. Please contact our Cemetery Trustee Ira Zukerman for help with cemetery issues. If someone close to you dies, please contact our rabbi or cantor for help and comfort. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tikkun Olam: Trees for Climate Change
Our active Tikkun Olam committee will be working on tree planting or reforestation as our main initiative this coming year, and one of the few clear solutions to climate change. Jews and tree planting? We even have a holiday for that. Now let’s figure out what we can do on a larger scale.
There’s lots going on at Shirat HaNefesh! Shabbat services and holiday celebrations: our annual Chanukah party, Purim Shpiel, Passover Mimouna, Shavuot Tikkun, and musical and meaningful High Holiday services. Explore our website, get on our mailing list, and talk to our clergy about how Shirat HaNefesh can enrich your life.
