Host School Shabbat Dinner (K-6)
Lifelong learning – joyful, meaningful Jewish living.
Education isn’t just for kids!
At Shirat HaNefesh, learning is a life-long expression of faith and the road to a more meaningful Jewish life. Our approach is individualized and hands-on. Working together, teachers, clergy and members provide the following programs:
Pre-K: Twice-monthly Shabbat morning classroom program combined with 4 Friday Night at Home programs, sharing the joy of a Shabbat meal and taking the first steps towards learning how Judaism turns the table into an altar, using the innovative Hazon ‘Food for Thought’ curriculum.
K-6th grade: Hebrew, Torah, Prayer, Music, Art, History, taught through hands-on, sensory experiences and innovative projects that enliven and excite. Monthly Family Service.
B’nei Mitzvah: Personalized instruction by our Rabbi, Cantor and Madrichim (guides). Students study and chant from Torah and Haftarah, lead services, and undertake social action projects. Becoming B’nei Mitzvah is a thoughtful process in our community.
Post- B’nei Mitzvah: A new joint Sunday study program with Kehila Chadasha for grades 7-9, coupled with monthly Friday Night Family Learning based on the innovative Hazon “Food for Thought” Curriculum, social action projects, an out-of-town field trip, and a retreat.
Leading Services: Shirat HaNefesh members from post-B’nei Mitzvah age onward are encouraged to experience the liturgy on a deeper level by taking on leadership roles, from mastering a single prayer to learning to chant from Torah, to lead meditation or even an entire service.
Lifelong Learning: Led by clergy and members, classes cover everything from Scripture to Jewish ethics, history, and social justice. Members get to experience ancient Biblical spices and oils or take part in a challah-baking workshop.
